Also available in French This publication is the outcome of a study carried out on the instructions of the Ministry for Home Affairs of The Netherlands and contains an evaluation of the use of videotex in the central governments of the Member States of the European Community. First an overview is given of the videotex usage worldwide with emphasis on the European countries. Belgium, the Federal Republic of Germany, France and the United Kingdom were approached to obtain assistance in gathering the required information and, where possible, to provide summaries. An examination is made on the use of videotex in their respective central governments, which functions it carries out, what the degree of satisfaction is, why it has been stopped (if applicable), and an impression of the costs. In addition, information has also been gathered on OVIDE at the European Parliament in Luxembourg. An analysis is also made of the successes and failures identified and a recommendation is made regarding the kinds of applications for which videotex is suitable. |
