Description

The EEA Agreement establishing the European Economic Area (EEA), which entered into force on 1 January 1994, is currently the zenith of cooperation between the European Community and the EFTA States and the field of competition is one of the most important areas covered by the EEA Agreement.
This book contains the papers presented by specialists from the EFTA States and the European Community on competition law in the framework of EC-EFTA relations at the colloquium organized by the European Institute of Public Administration.
The essays in this book focus at the institutional set-up of the EEA Agreement, its substantive rules of competition, the EEA surveillance and enforcement mechanism and the division of competences and cooperation between the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the EC Commission in the handling of individual antitrust and merger cases. Finally, it analyzes the efforts to create a homogeneous EEA and the role of the EFTA Court.
The Agreement on the Establishment of a Surveillance Authority and a Court of Justice (ESA/EFTA Court Agreement) has been added as a documentary annex to this book.
